The making of the ‘Winston 150’
Churchill’s favourite Romeo Y Julieta Churchill cigars went into a special distillation machine and in this way the taste of the tobacco extract was extracted from them. The cigars were first chopped into pieces, then roasted and went into the distillation machine. For 2.5 hours a condensation took place under vacuum from which the extract emerged. An extract was also taken from Churchill’s favourite whisky, Johnnie Walker Black Label. Then a chocolate ganache was made from the Johnnie Walker Black Label extract and a soft gel from the cigar aroma. Whoever tastes the “Winston 150’, smells and feels the presence of tobacco in the throat and taste buds. The taste experience is unique! Put the bonbon in your mouth in one go and let the bonbon melt on your tongue. First it is like smelling the cigar leaves, then you taste and feel the smoky nicotine tingling in your mouth and throat. As a finishing touch, you taste the chocolate ganache with the Johnnie Walker Black Label. Enjoy this one-time limited edition, commemorated to the 150th birthday of Sir Winston!
Introduction
In the summer of 2024, our PR designer Christian Petermann designed a special 60 Pound banknote for former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in honor of his 60th birthday. Johnson’s banknote clearly features his great idol, the British statesman Sir Winston Churchill. During research, we discovered that on November 30, 2024, it will be exactly 150 years since England’s greatest Briton was born. When you think of Sir Winston Churchill, you think of the Oscar-winning film ‘Darkest Hour’ in which actor Gary Oldman plays him creditably. Indispensable are the whisky and cigars that Churchill cherished until almost his death in 1965. Since 2010, La Feve has been developing tailor-made bonbons with unique flavor combinations that have become increasingly daring in style and taste with ongoing innovations. Master Chocolatier Geert-Jan Heesterbeek went to work with whisky and cigars as basic ingredients and this resulted in a unique, never before made ‘The Winston’ 150 bonbon, made in a limited edition. Churchill’s grandson Sir Nicholas Soames, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and King Charles III received boxes 001, 002 and 003 respectively.
